From the intertidal zone
Pictured below, some of the river life from the tidal water just below Cilgerran Gorge. The river bed here is entirely paved in slate waste, spoil from the old Cilgerran quarries. So much of the waste remains that it has a profound effect on the tide which used to run up to Cenarth but now stops at Llechryd Bridge several miles downstream due to the volume of water it displaces.
